“The Automation Program is strategic and I feel very fulfilled to be in a leadership position”

Maria José de Moura, 40, is CPFL Energia's asset management coordinator and leads the Distribution Automation Program, one of the main investments to improve the quality of services

“I started working at CPFL Energia 17 years ago and I currently head a team of 21 employees responsible for managing the equipment installed in the distribution networks. The PAD (Distribution Automation Program, in Portuguese) consists of the installation of automatic circuit reclosers to improve the quality of the energy distribution service.

Our job is to indicate, based on a series of indicators and data, the best seat to install this equipment. We consider the number of clients that will benefit and the type of activity that exists in the region, prioritizing high-density blocks or those that have industries and hospitals, for example. We also look at supply quality indicators, emphasizing areas that require more attention.

Therefore, the PAD is a strategic project for CPFL Energia and I feel that it is a great responsibility to be involved in this analysis, as we are working to ensure the best supply of electricity to our customers.

With the automation of our network, from the installation of more automatic reclosers, it will be possible to minimize the impacts of the interruption of energy supply for our customers and achieve a quick recovery time for energy failures, such as pole collisions, tree falls on the network, among other occurrences.

Personally, I feel very fulfilled to be in a leadership position in Asset Management, I am currently the only woman in this position on the Engineering Board. I have the opportunity to work with what I like and I was able to go through different areas until I reached the coordination of a team.

Although there is still little diversity in our sector, there are few people with disabilities and black people, I see that we are evolving. It is already possible to notice the increase in the female presence: of the 21 people who are currently on my team, 4 are women and 2 of them arrived in the last year.

This theme has become stronger inside the company. I am part of the diversity program, and I am at the forefront of actions to value black people. This is an important initiative so that others can make their dreams come true, as it happened to me.

I always wanted to be an engineer and a leader and CPFL helped me to achieve these dreams through the Requalification Program, in which I got scholarships that helped me to pay the costs, and the Internal Recruitment Program. I was able to evolve in my career and, today, I feel happy, fulfilled and professionally valued.
